Description
Lord of Saga, circa 1631 Certification Papers: NBTHK Hozon Token (Rated: Worthy of Preservation) An historic sword; a piece of samurai history with a great back-story. Only a powerful and important Daimyō could carry a sword of this beauty and history. It has one of the most unique saya you will ever see — a split scabbard with one side highlighting thousands of tiny pieces of turquoise mother-of-pearl, and the other wrapped with a piece of the master's favorite robe. Look closely at the fabric, leather, and reflections of copper — all done in a sea theme. Magnificent! One-of-a-kind work of art.
The Story
Forged in the Edo period, this sword reflects the sea-bound spirit of Saga province. The koi minuki symbolize perseverance through hardship, while the lobster fittings represent strength and courage. A split saya of mother-of-pearl and robe fabric makes this a singular masterpiece of samurai history and art.
