Description
Its fittings include a brass blade utility knife with gold detailing and a beautiful shirasaya (plain wooden storage mount) that shows it was custom-built for a high-quality blade. The 1532-crafted blade by smith Tsunahiro makes this tanto both historically and artistically important.
The Story
Called “Imperial Lord”, this tanto once belonged to someone from the Imperial Court. It is richly symbolic, from the golden paulownia crests to Buddhist teardrop shapes representing spiritual grace.
